Jenna Hostetler West Liberty, Ohio, USA
C4-5 complete, June 2005
On a warm Sunday afternoon, Jenna went swimming at a friend's house, dove into the pool and dislocated C 4-5, and was unable to move. Her friends reacted quickly and prevented her from drowning by floating her to the top of the water and supporting her until EMS arrive 7 min. later.
An avid gymnast, exceptional 1st basemen, and Jr. Hi. pole vault record holder, Jenna was instantly changed to a tetraplegic with some shoulder movement. After 2 months in Children's Hospital and 3 months at Kennedy-Kreiger Institute, Jenna was finally weaned from her ventilator and returned home. Continuous rehab and home therapy has shown little improvement. Jenna is currently a sophmore in High School with an "A" average, maintains an amazing positive, light hearted attitude and is anticipating recovery and returning to near normal function.
