Susan was injured at the start of the 4th of July weekend when the family Ford Explorer she was riding in was broadsided by a 16 year old new driver who had failed to stop at a stop sign. The Explorer rolled and Susan's neck was dislocated, plunging her and her family into the nightmare world of paralysis that no one should have to enter.
Despite the tremendous daily struggles associated with paralysis, Susan is a wife, mother, and volunteer advocate for spinal cord injury cures and treatments. She also works part-time in the information technology field for a large healthcare organization.
Susan looks forward to the day in the not too distant future that a combination of regenerative and rehabilitation medicine will fully eradicate permanent paralysis due to spinal cord injury. She remains hopeful that very soon politics and funding will no longer be a barrier to that eventuality.
