I was 28 when I sustained a burst L1 fracture from a car wreck. Instantly my legs became paralyzed and I lost control of bodily functions. I was taken to Duke for spinal surgery and started learning about my new life as a member of the SCI disabled community at the WakeMed hospital in Raleigh. I am returning to work, however, but have ongoing healthcare needs.
I believe that Embryonic Stem Cells represent the greatest chance of developing a treatment for SCI. We are all so hopeful that therapies will be developed to treat our conditions. Please support this research.
