On Memorial Day 2001 I suffered an unprovoked disc rupture that pressed against my spinal cord. It was a freak occurrence but one that changed my life. As a successful business executive, the injury interrupted my life. With the loving support of my wife and two children, I continue to be active in business as well as speaking and writing. In March of 2001 I published an article on resilience for the Harvard Business Review. Titled, "Realizing What You're Made Of" discusses what separates survivors from victims and leaders from survivors.
