David was injured in 2002 while enjoying one of his passions - live music. When leaving the show he fell over 30 feet onto concrete, breaking his neck and leaving him a C4 quadriplegic. Despite his injury, David still attends as many concerts as he can.

David hosts an annual basketball tournament and silent auction to raise money for spinal cord injury research. Since 2003 the event has raised over $80,000 for the benefit of The Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin.
