C4/C5 Incomplete, June 2005

I'm a 22 year old C4/C5 quadriplegic from SC. I had just graduated college and took my dental hygiene boards a week before my car accident. I was ejected from my car into a corn field and I couldn't move from my neck down. Luckily, I was found immediately by a former EMS. I was in the trauma unit 10 days and I was flown to Shepard's Center in Georgia for 4 months. I made some progress there, a little function in my arms and wrists. I have been in Maryland with my mom staying with friends for a year doing rehab at National Rehab Center in DC, horseback riding therapy, personal training and acupuncture and I have regained some function in my lower extremity muscles and some bladder function. I ride my FES bike and stand in my standing frame daily. It's been a long and tiring journey having to leave my dad, family and friends and not be able to do what I worked so hard on in school for 3 years but the key is to never give up. I was fortunate in having so much support, my family isn't wealthy but God has blessed me.
